Professor Lawrence Lessig, keynote speaker at LIANZA Conference

Professor Lawrence Lessig will be presenting a keynote address at the LIANZA (Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa) Conference in Auckland in November. The LIANZA Conference 2008 will be held at the SKYCITY Convention Centre, Auckland, New Zealand, from Sunday 2 to Wednesday 5 November 2008. His topic is “Keeping the outside outside the box: The role of independence in the profession of the librarian, and academy, and the threats both now face”.

Lawrence Lessig is a Professor of Law at Stanford Law School and founder of the school's Center for Internet and Society. He teaches and writes in the areas of constitutional law, contracts, and the law of cyberspace. He is the author of Code v2 (2007), Free Culture (2004), The Future of Ideas (2001) and Code and Other Laws of Cyberspace (1999). He is on the board of the Creative Commons project, MAPLight and the Sunlight Foundation.

Professor Lessig’s keynote is on the morning of Tuesday 4 November. Registrations for the full conference or Tuesday only are welcome.

LIANZA Conference 2008 and the Faculty of Law at The University of Auckland are co-hosting Professor Lessig's New Zealand visit. Professor Lessig will also give a public lecture at the University on Monday 3 November “Keeping culture free: The choices law and technology force us to make about the future of the Internet and the progress of cultures” which will review the struggle produced by “copyright laws” and propose the ideals which the law and industry should follow.
