Make the Most of Pattern Dot Life
Kiwi musician Jeremiah Ross of Module has released his new CC licensed live album for remixing. Module fans are encouraged to download and share tracks from Pattern Dot Life and then upload remixed versions for him to consider for official release.
His stylish new album website features live gig videos and downloadable tracks complete with Ableton Live session remix packs. Once you have played remix-havoc at home, upload your creations back to Module for others to hear.
A Creative Commons Attribution licence enables this album to develop into a truly collaborative project. “I decided to make the live album and remix packs Creative Commons because I just wanted to let people know that this is something cool and fun and get as many people involved as possible” says Module.
The Pattern Dot Life project has three parts, and is currently in what Module calls ‘Version 1.0’ where the aim is simply to download, share, remix and upload.
The “Daft Punk meets Kraftwerk style tracks” were recorded during a gig at Wellington’s Sandwiches Bar in August. Along with some oldies-but-goodies such as a live version of ‘Stars and Sky’, Module lets loose with lead guitar solos on keyboards and 80’s inspired synth rock.
“The thing that sets it apart I feel is that it is live electro which really adds something to it. I am performing it, playing those parts, I am not DJ’ing this and it’s not a pristine perfect sounding record. It’s just lots of fun.”
Version 2.0 will consist of produced versions of the live album tracks along with the best 10 remixes that are submitted over the next 6 months. This version will be available for purchase on iTunes, and remix participants will receive 50 per cent of the royalties their work generates should it be chosen for the album. The final Version 3.0 will be double A CD with a DVD that Module plans to record overseas sometime in the future.
Pattern Dot Life began as a way for Module to release a style of music that developed organically from touring and playing live music, but has now developed into a fully inclusive remix project.
“Interactive musical releases could be the way of the future, where involving people in the creative process [is] to make something really cool.”
