People in Your Neighbourhood
Date: 12/03/2009 - 14/03/2009
People In Your Neighbourhood is an intercultural creative commons music work bringing together local artists and the acclaimed UK String Collective Urban Soul Orchestra. A joint project between the British Council New Zealand, Echo Culture and Sugarlicks, it aims to celebrate cultural diversity in Auckland city.
Working with some of the emerging artists amongst Auckland’s Asian, Polynesian, Hispanic and European communities, a CC licensed album is being recorded that includes ethnic musicians and songwriters, alongside modern Kiwi urban producers and artists, collaborating to create a work that has modern production values, whilst still retaining distinct elements of culture.
In conjunction with the People in Your Neighbourhood album release, there will be live performances to showcase the intercultural aspects of the project. The lives shows will incorporate motifs of movement and ethnicity from traditional Chinese strings, Pacific drumming, Asian street breaking, and African dancing.
